Illinois Beef Association Summer Internship

Essential Job Functions:   

Be part of the team serving Illinois’ cattle industry as the summer intern at Illinois Beef Association. In this role, you will work in a variety of IBA program areas, including marketing communication, education, policy, and youth development. During the internship period, mid-May to late August, you will be given the opportunity to support a variety of programming areas; examples of some potential projects include:  

  • Develop editorial and advertising content for Illinois Beef magazine.  
  • Participate in the planning and development of workshops and tours for IBA and IJBA members.  
  • Provide support with marketing campaigns to deliver Checkoff-funded beef promotion activities  
  • Support public relations strategies, including the potential to create and execute IBA social media marketing across multiple platforms and to several audiences 
  • Participate in communication and issues management projects that support policy and regulatory objectives benefiting the Illinois beef industry   
  • The IBA Programs and Marketing Intern will also be required to complete a capstone project throughout the summer in a specific area of interest, as identified with the support of IBA staff leadership.    
Key Qualifications and Requirements:   
  • Enrolled full-time in college coursework that supports professional development in internship program areas (i.e., Communication, Marketing, Education, Ag Leadership, etc.). 
  • Current member of Illinois Junior Beef Association or Illinois Beef Association and/or willing to become a member once selected for the position. 
  • Background and experience in beef production and/or cattle management.   
  • Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, phone presence and presentation ability 
  • Preference given for experience with content development, including writing, photography, social media, videography, etc.  
  • Knowledge and experience with food, agriculture and beef industry issues recommended  IBA Programs & Marketing intern reports to the Executive Vice President

Pay and Location:   
Interns receive a bi-monthly stipend that is commensurate with abilities and experience. Intern must work from IBA’s offices in Springfield, Ill., and will be provided expenses and transportation for travel to and from Association events and activities throughout the state. Intern will be responsible for their own housing, but IBA staff can assist in locating options in the area if needed.

Illinois Beef Expo Internship

Essential Job Functions:   
Illinois Beef Association is seeking interns for the 2022 Illinois Beef Expo, which takes place Feb. 24-27, at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield.  

IBA has openings for interns in the following areas:  
  • Marketing Communications & Promotions intern supports the public relations activities for Illinois Beef Expo, including website management, social media content, media relations. Duties may include developing marketing materials to support promotion of Beef Expo cattle sales and Junior Beef activities. On-site support of all facets of 2022 Illinois Beef Expo, including setup and tear down.  
  • Junior Activities Coordination intern supports the management and oversight of Illinois Junior Beef Association competitions and contests. Duties may include assisting show management with entries, stalling requests, clerking show ring events and providing assistance with preparing classes and prizes. On-site support of all facets of 2022 Illinois Beef Expo, including setup and tear down.

Interns must be available for in-person work in Springfield, Ill., from Wednesday, Feb. 23, thru Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022, and will be provided expenses and housing for the duration of their time at the Illinois Beef Expo. On-site workdays will be long and continuous; interns are not eligible to participate in competitive events taking place during the 2022 Illinois Beef Expo.    

Some virtual workdays may be required in advance to support planning and promotion of Illinois Beef Expo efforts.
